The Story: Liberating Kannada’s Beauty from the ASCII Trap
I’m Ravikirana B – an engineer driven by curiosity and clarity. My work sits at the intersection of hardware and software. I specialize in Python programming and electronics, building real-world solutions that don’t just work—they make sense. I started 'Tech Priya' with a simple mission: to share the joy of technology. "Priya" means dear or beloved, and this platform is dedicated to everyone who loves to understand the "why" and "how" behind the machines we use every day. What you’ll find here: 🔌 Electronics Simplified: Complex circuits explained with relatable analogies (think water tanks, gates, and traffic flows). 🐍 Python in Practice: Automation ideas, coding insights, and tool development. 💡 Real Reflections: Honest takes on tech, bridging the gap between textbook theory and hands-on reality. 🌿 Native Connection: Tech concepts explained with a Kannada-English touch to make learning feel like home. I believe technology shouldn't be a barrier. Whether you are a student from a small town or a self-learner with big dreams, Tech Priya is here to make the complex simple. Let’s keep exploring—clearly, curiously, and together. 🙌
For years, I have carried a quiet frustration every time I opened modern design software. Kannada is visually stunning—a script of elegant curves and profound heritage. Yet, in the digital design world, we have been forced to compromise. While English has thousands of sleek, expressive typefaces, Kannada creators have been stuck choosing between a handful of basic Unicode fonts or wrestling with beautiful but technologically obsolete legacy ASCII fonts like Nudi.
I couldn’t accept that our language had to look outdated just because the underlying font technology hadn't kept up.
I wanted flawless, stylish Kannada typography that worked seamlessly across the modern web, video editors, and design tools without breaking into dotted circles or misaligned marks.
This obsession took over my life. After finishing my regular company hours, my nights became a blur of reverse-engineering font tables, calculating vector offsets, and mapping decades-old ASCII logic to modern HarfBuzz and OpenType standards. There were countless sleepless nights filled with dead ends, broken ligatures, and sheer exhaustion. But every time I thought about giving up, my deep love for Kannada pushed me back to the keyboard.
Finally, I cracked it.
I have successfully built the architecture to convert the entire library of beloved legacy Nudi ASCII fonts into 100% compliant, modern Unicode OpenType fonts. No more broken ottaksharas. No more layout glitches. Just pure, stylish Kannada, ready for the next generation of digital creators.
I didn't build this to keep it on my hard drive. I poured my heart into this for our community. If you are a designer, a content creator, a developer, or simply someone who loves seeing Kannada shine on a screen, this is for you.
You can now access and use these flawless Kannada Unicode fonts directly at lipi.rvanveshana.com.
Please share this with every Kannadiga who cares about our digital footprint. Let’s ensure that whenever our language is written, it is written beautifully.
